Karyn Scott is the founder of Kids in a New Groove (KING), a non-profit that provides free weekly music mentorship exclusively for youth in foster care. The innovative program empowers youth in foster care through weekly music lessons taught by music teachers trained to be effective mentors. Over 600 Texas youth have benefitted from the weekly program, beating the odds of homelessness and incarceration often facing foster youth as they age out of care. Before venturing into the non-profit arena, Karyn received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas in Austin, and received her law degree from Pepperdine School of Law in California. She is currently scaling the impact of KING through Care2Rock, an L3C social enterprise that will recruit teachers to teach paid music lessons online throughout the country, allowing teachers to earn a living wage while also volunteering to teach one child in foster care in their own community.
